Jeff Conway

Jeff Conway, Sam Houston assistant head coach and wide receivers coach, came with Bearkat head coach Willie Fritz from Central Missouri and also served on Fritz's staff at Blinn Junior College.

 Conway was the first assistant named to Bearkat staff by Fritz after his appointment as SHSU's 14th head coach in December, 2009. In his first season the Bearkats won six of their final nine games to finish tied for third place in the Southland Conference after being picked seventh in the preseason polls.

 Conway was associate head coach and wide receivers coach at Central Missouri. During his six years on Fritz's staff at Central Missouri, the Mules rolled up a 41-24 record including an 8-3 mark in 2009 and seven victory seasons in 2004, 2005, 2007 and 2008.

 Previously, Conway worked six seasons with the University of New Mexico. From 1993 to 1996, Conway was Fritz' s offensive offensive coordinator at Blinn Junior College for teams that rolled up a 39-5-1 record and won two NJCAA national championships. Conway led Blinn to an 8-2 record as head coach of the Bucs in 1997.

Conway's coaching career began as an assistant his alma mater, Northwest Missouri State. In 1984 and 1985 he was a graduate assistant along with Fritz at Sam Houston State on teams that went 16-6 and won a Gulf Star Conference championship. He also served as an offensive coordinator at Missouri Western and as an assistant at Lamar University. At New Mexico from 1998 to 2003, Conway served as coordinator of special teams and recruiting and also coached wide receivers, tight ends and running backs.

Conway is a 1981 graduate of Northwest Missouri State where he earned is bachelor's degree in finance and played football as a free safety from 1978 to 1981. He  is a native of Knoxville, Iowa. He and his wife, Jolene, have three daughters - Callie, Patsy and Bobbi.
