Robby Discher

Robby Discher has been part of a Sam Houston coaching staff that has guided the Bearkats to a 31-10 record, two Southland titles and back-to-back NCAA national championship finals appearances the past three season.

Discher joined the Kats' staff as a graduate assistant in March 2010. He was named as an assistant coach last season in charge of coaching the kickers, punters, and snappers.

Discher has coached four players who have earned All-Southland Conference honors a total of seven times.

Kicker Miguel Antonio stands as Sam Houston's all-time leader in kick scoring with 324 points. Matt Foster completed his Bearkat career ranked fifth in all-time punting with a 40.7 average.

Ken Jones was perfect on PAT/field goal snaps as well as punt snaps in 2011.

Sam Houston State return specialists Brandon Closner finished his career as the Bearkats all-time leading kickoff returner in school history with 1,734 career yards.  He set the record with his 81 yard kickoff return for a touchdown against Montana State in the 2011 FCS Quarterfinals.  Closner is also the school's second all-time leader in punt return yards, with 753.

Prior to his move to Huntsville, Discher served as an assistant coach at Kearney High School (MO) working with Quarterbacks and Outside Linebackers for one season.  In his one season with Kearney, the Bulldogs piled up a 13-2 record and won the Missouri Class 4 State Championship.

Prior to coaching, Discher played collegiately at William Jewell College, in Liberty, MO from 2006 to 2008.  He was a wide receiver for the Cardinals.  He graduated from William Jewell College in 2009 with a degree in Secondary Education and Physical Education.  Discher went on to earn his master's degree from Sam Houston State in 2012 in Kinesiology: Exercise Science.  The Kansas City, MO native attended high school at North Kansas City High School.
