Dariana Orme enters her first season as Sam Houston’s pitching coach in 2027. Head coach Garrett Valis added the former Baylor and Fresno State pitcher to the Bearkat staff in June 2026 following one season at Charleston Southern.
Orme joined Charleston Southern in July 2025 and worked with the Buccaneers’ pitchers and catchers during the 2026 season. Her responsibilities included recruiting, scouting, game preparation, practice planning, bullpen development and individualized player development.
Her coaching approach emphasizes the mental side of competition, with a focus on preparation, confidence, resilience and self-awareness. Before entering college coaching, Orme gained experience in select softball with Swarm 16U in Waco, Sorcerers Gold 18U in Stockton, Calif., and Hooks 16U in Waco.
Orme spent three seasons at Fresno State before transferring to Baylor, where she earned All-Big 12 second team honors in 2022 and 2023. She also received NFCA all-region recognition in both seasons, earning second team honors in 2022 and first team honors in 2023.
Her 2023 season included a 14-8 record, a team-leading 1.92 ERA and 126 strikeouts. She threw Baylor’s first seven-inning perfect game against SFA on February 17 and followed with a no-hitter against No. 21 Maryland on February 24, striking out a career-high 11 batters.
Orme earned NFCA National Pitcher of the Week honors on February 21, 2023, after a week that included the perfect game and a victory over No. 1 Oklahoma. She received three Big 12 Pitcher of the Week awards that season and also threw a complete-game shutout against No. 4 Tennessee. She entered 2024 on the USA Softball Top 50 Player of the Year Watch List.
At Fresno State, Orme earned Academic All-Mountain West recognition in 2020 and finished the 2021 season with an 8-4 record and a 3.26 ERA.
A native of Vacaville, Calif., Orme attended Vanden HS, where she twice earned conference Pitcher of the Year honors and helped her team win two section championships.
Orme earned bachelor’s degrees in corporate communication and sociology from Baylor and completed a Master of Arts in Theology of Sport.
