Gus Mota

Gus Mota, a veteran coach with a decade of coaching experience, enters his first season with Sam Houston State as an assistant coach on head coach Tom Brown’s staff in 2014.

Mota was most recently an assistant at Southeastern Louisiana where he helped bring in a recruiting class that helped the Lions to a Southland tournament championship.

Prior to his time at Southeastern Louisiana he was a graduate assistant at the University of South Carolina, working primarily with the goalkeepers. The Gamecocks won the Conference USA title and advanced to the NCAA College Cup during Mota’s time. The program produced the 11th ranked recruiting class in the nation.

Other coaching stops for Mota include a stint as an assistant coach for the 1996 South Carolina ODP team and a Director position for Lower Lexington II Soccer Club.

Mota played his collegiate soccer at the University of South Carolina Aiken as a goalkeeper for the USC-Aiken Pacers.
