Kim Black now serves as graduate assistant coach for the Bearkat volleyball program after an outstanding career as a student-athlete at Sam Houston State.

An All-Southland Conference selection for the Bearkats who helped lead the SHSU women to the 2012 league championship, Black owns the program’s No. 2 career total for blocks (508).

As a senior on the championship team, she led the league in total blocks (140).

Black earned All-Southland honors in both 2011 and 2012. As a junior in 2011 she was the team's second leading scorer with 334 points. That season she finished ranked fifth in the Southland in total blocks with 121.

She was an All-Southland Conference honorable mention selection in 2010, ranking second in the league in total blocks. She was Southland Conference "Defensive Player of the Week" Oct. 11, 2010. Black was a first team Academic All-Southland selection in 2011 as accounting major. She also was afour-time Southland Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll selection

Black was a three-time All-District performer and four-year starter for head coach Debbie Hightower at Huntsville High School. She played club volleyball for Brazos Valley Juniors in 2006-07 and Houston Juniors in 2007-08
