A longtime athletic administrator and coach, Crawford was on the faculty at SHSU from 1929 until his death in 1967 and was inducted into the first class of the Hall of Honor in 1971. From 1929 to 1949 he was on the football coaching staff as either an assistant coach or head coach, serving as the Kats' head coach in 1936 and 1937. He also served as the head track coach for the Bearkats from1930 to 1951.
