SHSU men picked to win basketball West Division

As part of the media events, the conference released it's preseason polls and All-Southland teams.
On the men's side the Sam Houston State Bearkats were picked to win the Western Division in both the coaches' poll and the SID poll. Also, Bearkat senior Ryan Bright was named as a first-team selection.
“Last year he played really well,” head coach Bob Marlin said about Ryan Bright. “He has just gotten better. He has learned how to be the focal point of the other teams' scouting report and still know how to go out and help the team win.”
On the women's side, head coach Brenda Nicholls is in the second year of rebuilding the program. Her squad was picked at the bottom of the division in both the coaches' and SID polls.
“You really can't tell a lot from the polls,” Nicholls said. “We have so many new players on this year's team, it is hard to predict how anyone is going to finish.
