Stephen F. Austin extended its record Southland Conference regular season winning streak to 61 matches Tuesday night in Nacogdoches with a 30-24 30-22 30-21 victory over Sam Houston State.
Senior outside hitter Cynthia Yarotsky led the Bearkats with 15 kills. Freshman middle blocker Brittanie Wallace added seven kills for Sam Houston.
The Bearkats totaled 30 kills during the match but made 25 hitting errors. Stephen F. Austin dominated with 55 kills and only 20 errors. The Lumberjack defense totaled 10 blocks.
Traci Rohde and Shelly Swendig led Stephen F. Austin with 12 kills apiece.
With the victory, the Lumberjacks upped their season mark to 20-6 and remained unbeaten, 10-0, in Southland Conference action. Sam Houston dropped to 11-12 for the year and 5-5 in league action.
Sam Houston State returns home to Johnson Coliseum to face a pair of Southland East Division foes this weekend. The Bearkats host Lamar at 7 p.m. Friday night and McNeese State at 4 p.m. Saturday.
