
Sam Houston places seventh at Southland Cross Country

CORPUS CHRISTI -- Both the Sam Houston State women's and men's cross country teams placed seventh in the team competition at the annual Southland Conference championships hosted by Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
The Bearkat women scored 203 points in the team competition. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi won the team title with 48 points, followed by Lamar 52, Stephen .F. Austin 98, Texas State-San Marcos 111, Texas-Arlington 112, Central Arkansas 175, SHSU 203, Texas-San Antonio 207, Nicholls State 245, Southeastern Louisiana 261, and Northwestern State 296.
Clerc Koenck of Lamar was the individual women's champion on the 6,000 meter course with a time of 20 minutes, 48 seconds.
Senior Whitney Rister led the Bearkat women with an 18th place individual finish sporting a time of 22 minutes, 15 seconds. Allison Ferries (22:36) was 25th, Molly Farrell (23:28) 38th, Amanda Warren (24:48) 57th, and Bridget Costello (26:07) 65th to round out the Sam Houston State entries.
Lamar won the men's competition with a team score of 37 points. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi was team runner-up with a total of 73 points, followed by Texas-Arlington 73, Stephen F. Austin 116, McNeese 126, Texas-San Antonio 172, Sam Houston 209, Texas State-San Marcos 221, Southeastern Louisiana 251, Central Arkansas 269, Northwestern State 301, and Nicholls St. 330.
Shadrack Songok of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi was the men's individual champion with a time of 24 minutes, four seconds on the 8,000 meter course.
Dustin Joubert led Sam Houston with a 25th place finish with his time of 26 minutes, 23 seconds. Other Bearkat competitors were Keith Edmond (26:58) 37th, Ray Venegas (27:21) 45th, Mark Amann (27:25) 47th, Cotton Langridge (28:08) 55th, and Ryan Martin (28:38) 60th.
