
Kats win medals at CUSA championships

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — The Sam Houston track and field teams brought home some hardware at the Conference USA Outdoor Championships May 16-18 at the Dean A. Hayes Track Stadium on the campus of Middle Tennessee.

Nia Thompson rolled to a gold medal finish in the long jump. She turned in a distance of 6.23 meters to take first, well ahead of second place which was 6.14 to earn 10 points.

Caleb Anthony continued his impressive outdoor season with gold medal performance in the men's 800 meters. He was the first to the finish line with a time of 1:48.40.

The women's 4x100-meter relay of Ayana Mallard-Smith, Rajer Gurode, Aleah Washington and Anivea Gilbert placed second with a time of 44.36. The men's team of Xzamion Parker, Javain Johnson, Jones and Tyriq Brunn took silver as well with a time of 39.31.

Jayden Jones cruised to a second-place finish in the men's 200 with a time of 20.43. He teamed with Christian Rohlack, Anthony and Parker to claim bronze in the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:09.45.

Three Bearkats earned points in the women's 100 meters. Gurode, who also took seventh in the 200, placed fourth with a time of 11.49 seconds followed by Gilbert in sixth (12.24) and Washington in eighth (12.80).

The men also had a strong showing in the 100 with Jones taking fourth with a time of 10.26. Parker placed seventh at 10.36 while Rohlack earned points in the 800 by placing sixth (1:50.82).

Gudisa Adnow placed sixth in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 14:32.00. Kaderria Hobbs was fifth in the women's 400 hurdles at 1:01.12.

The women's 4x400 relay of Amaya Kennison-Jenkins, Michayla Ivory, Aniyah Ramirez and Alyssa Jolly took seventh with a time of 3:43.38.

Kyle Kiser was eighth in the triple jump with a distance of 14.77 meters.

The men placed fourth overall in the team standings with 73.50 points, and the women placed ninth with 38.
