Kats perform well at first indoor meet

HOUSTON — The Sam Houston track and field teams opened the indoor season at the Leonard Hilton Memorial Invitational hosted by Houston on Friday at the Yeoman Field House.

Some of the highlights featured eight top-three finishes for the Bearkats including a second-place finish for Jayden Jones in the 60-meter run. He was the top collegiate (second overall) finisher with a time of 6.69 seconds.

Christian Rivera was second in the 3,000 meters with a time of 8:26.60, and Dalton Smith and Rachel Maciejeski were second in the men's and women's pole vault with marks of 4.93 and 3.75 meters, respectively. Dominykas Cepys had a throw of 16.35 meters in the shot put to finish second.

Third place went to Christian Rohlack in the 600-yard run (1:11.86), the 4x400-meter relay "B" team Jabari Mitchell, Jaquez Simmons, Mitchell Hackstedt and Jayden Jones (3:20.53) and Dylan Truss in the pole vault (4.78 meters).
