
Softball signs six recruits

Six top high school seniors have signed letters-of-intent during the 2007 fall early signing period to attend Sam Houston State and play softball for Bearkat Head Coach Bob Brock.
"We are excited and pleased to welcome six outstanding young players to the Bearkat softball program," Brock said. "We signed some very talented student-athletes who will bring a lot to the program both as athletes and students."
The six players are:
ERIN BURFORD
Utility player from Austin Bowie High School
Three-time All-District selection, earning District Most Valuable Player honors her sophomore season ... in her fourth season as a starter for Bowie High School
TOMI GARRISON
Pitcher from Garland High School
Starter on back-to-back state championship teams ... Texas UIL 5A state tournament MVP and all-tournament selections ... District "Pitcher of the Year" ... All State, All-DFW Metroplex, and All-District ... in fourth year as a starter for Garland
BRITTANY GUTIERREZ
Infielder from Wharton High School
All-District shortstop and third base for Wharton squads that finished as area champions in 2005 and bi-district champions in 2006 ... in fourth year as starter for Wharton ... All-State selection
ASHLEY NEWBERRY
Utility player from LaPorte High School
In her fourth season as a varisty player for LaPorte ... All-District selection as a sophomore and junior ... Newcomer of the Year as a freshman ... team Most Valuable Player as a junior
COURTNEY SCHOENEMAN
Utility player from Spring High School
All-District selection ... in fourth season as a starter for Spring High School
