LUBBOCK -- For one half, Sam Houston State threw a scare into the unbeaten Texas Tech women's basketball team, holding a lead until the final seconds
before intermission, but the Red Raiders came roaring back in the second period to secure an 84-51 non-conference victory Tuesday.

Down 21-14 with 10:49, Sam Houston went on a 10-3 run to tie the game 24-24 on a Deltrice Daniel jumper. Brittany Brooks hit another jumper to tie the contest 28-28. Finally, the Bearkats took the lead on a Britney Harris three point basket with four minutes remaining to go up 34-31.

Sam Houston led 37-36 with the clock ticking down, but Stanecia Graham sank a layup on a fast break after a steal with three seconds left to give Texas Tech a 38-37 half time lead.

The Bearkats shot 44 percent in the first half, hitting 15-of-34 baskets. But Sam Houston turned cold in the second period, hitting only 4-of-37 shots as the Red Raiders outscored SHSU 46-14 in the final 20 minutes.

The game was tied at 41 early in the half, the Raiders went on a 39-6 run over the next 12 minutes.

"We had the game at half and then lost our intensity," said head coach Brenda Nichols. "In the second half the shots didn't fall for us and we just lost our intensity. First half we really played awesome. The girls are frustrated right now because they knew they had this one."

Lydia Gonzales led Sam Houston with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Deltrice Daniel scored in double figures with 10. Whitney Smith added nine points along with Brittany Brooks.
Graham led the Raiders with 19 points. Keisha Walker added 18 points.
