Bearkats stay unbeaten with win over TLU

Ashton Mitchell had a career night scoring as Sam Houston State rolled to a 82-48 win over Texas Lutheran on Tuesday night.

With the victory the Bearkats improved thier non-conference home court winning streak to 42 games, the second longest in the nation behind Duke. The Kats also moved to 7-0 on the season, the best start since the 1973 team went 28-0 to start the year.

Three players scored in double figures, including a game-high 18 from Mitchell. His previous best was 14 last season against Louisiana College. Also scoring in double figures for the Kats were Ryan Bright (14) and Reggie Rawlins (10).

The game got off to a slow start with neither team finding the basket. Five minutes into the game, the Kats held just a 4-3 lead. They then went on a 14-0 run and never looked back. The Kats took a 48-18 lead into the half and coasted the rest of the way.

The Kats fininshed the night shooting 44 percent from the floor and 28 percent from 3-point range.They had a 39-27 advantage on the rebounding, including 19 on the offensive glass.

The Kats will now head out on the road to take on Saint Loius on Saturday. They will return home Dec. 20 against Cal-Irvine.
