SAN ANTONIO ? Led by Carli Kolbe and Anna Ferguson, the Sam Houston volleyball team took only an hour and 33 minutes to dispose of Texas-San Antonio in three sets to pick up a big Southland Conference road victory Thursday night at the Convocation Center.

Sam Houston defeated the Roadrunners 25-18 25-18 25-23 to up its 2008 record to 10-16 for the season and 5-5-5 in Southland Conference action. UTSA dropped to 15-9 for the year and 7-3 in league play. Two of the Roadrunners' three SLC losses this year have come at the hands of Sam Houston.

Kolbe totaled 13 kills and Ferguson added 10. Ferguson and Haley Thomas dominated the net defensively as well, picking up six blocks apiece.

Launa McClung totaled six kills for Sam Houston and Thomas added five.

The Bearkats jumped out to quick leads in both the first two sets. Sam Houston led 10-4 early in the first set and got off to a 12-3 lead in the second.

The third set proved more difficult with 14 ties throughout the frame. The last tie came at 23-23. A kill by Thomas gave the Bearkats the opportunity to serve for the match with Sam Houston winning on a UTSA hitting error.

Sam Houston continues its final Southland road trip of the season Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. when the Bearkats take on Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The Kats will end the regular season with five home matches at Johnson Coliseum in the next two weeks.
