Bomar has career day against Nicholls State

HUNTSVILLE ? Saturday was a career day for Sam Houston State quarterback Rhett Bomar on many different levels. First off, he went into Nicholls State and threw for a career-high 394 yards against a Colonel team that was fresh off of back-to-back upsets over Central Arkansas and McNeese State. Both of those teams were ranked No. 11 at the time.
It was the first win for the Bearkats in Thibodaux, La., since 2001 and only the fifth win ever for the Bearkats at Guidry Stadium.
It was also a milestone day for Bomar in the SHSU record books. With 428 yards of total offense in the game, Bomar became the all-time total offense leader, passing Reggie Lewis. Bomar's total of 5,277 yards tops Lewis' mark of 5,150 which has stood since 1987.
He also moved to the top of the list in several other categories this past weekend. Bomar is now the all-time completions leader with 349 in his two-year career. With a pair of passing touchdowns against the Colonels, he moved into a tie at the top with Arthur Louis and Don Gottlob for most total touchdowns by a quarterback with 42 in a career.
The next major milestone in Bomar's sights is the all-time passing mark of 4,902 yards set by Louis in 1980. Bomar is now just 182 yards shy of breaking that record after moving past Dustin Long to No. 2 on the all-time list.
He will get a chance to break the record at home with the Kats hosting Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday at 6 p.m. The Bearkats will then finish out the season with a home game against Texas State-San Marcos on Nov. 22 at 2 p.m.
