HUNTSVILLE -- Playing in his first NCAA Division I game, transfer guard Corey Allmond scored 24 points and tied a Sam Houston school record with eight three point baskets to lead the Bearkat men's basketball team to a 100-42 non-conference victory over Schreiner Friday afternoon at Johnson Coliseum.
The Sam Houston record of eight three point baskets was set by Derrick Williams vs. Texas-Pan American in 1988 and Derick Preston against Northwestern State in 1994.
Riley Battle led Schreiner with 10 points. The game was the season opener for both squads.
Sam Houston never trailed, jumping out to an 11-0 lead. The Bearkats led 57-14 at halftime.
The Bearkats out-rebounded the Mountaineers 45 to 37. Barkley Falkner led Sam Houston State with nine rebounds. Ramirez pulled down eight.
Sam Houston State travels to Lubbock to take on Texas Tech Monday before returning to Johnson Coliseum to meet North Texas on Thursday.
