TULSA ? Whitney Smith scored nine points to lead Sam Houston as the Bearkat women's basketball team lost 83-41 to Oral Roberts Monday at the Mabee Center in a non-conference game.
Four Golden Eagle players scored in double figures as Janae Voelker totaled 15 points, Georgia Jones hit 14 and Monah Pegorari and Mariana Camargo each added 11. ORU upped its season record to 7-6 while Sam Houston dropped to 2-9.
Oral Roberts never trailed, jumping out to a 12-4 lead in the first six minutes. The Golden Eagles built a 44-20 lead at intermission and led by as many as 43 points, 77-34, with 5:21 left in the game.
Sam Houston had a season low shooting night, going 13-of-54 from the floor for a .224 shooting percentage. The Bearkats missed all 16 of their three point field goal attempts.
Oral Roberts out-rebounded the Bearkats 59-39 and out-scored Sam Houston 36-20 in the paint. ORU scored 18 points after offensive rebounds.
Ray Alexander and Khamra Echols each scored seven points for Sam Houston. Lydia Gonzales added six points. Gonzales led Sam Houston with seven rebounds.
The contest marked the eighth consecutive road game for the Sam Houston women. The Kats return home Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m. to host the Akron Zips. The game starts a three-game home stand for the women.
