CLEARWATER, FL -- Morgan Mikulin pitched a shut out as Sam Houston State defeated Ball State 1-0 in the Bearkats' second contest in the University of South Florida Spring Classic Saturday afternoon.
Earlier in the day the Bearkats lost to Long Island University 3-1. LIU jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first two innings, but a two-out double by Casie Everitt scored Tanya Hooser in the fourth inning. LIU pitcher Jenny Giles did not allow a base runner in the final three innings to pick up the victory.Brandi Crnkovic drew the loss for the Kats despite giving up only three hits and striking out four batters.
Mikulin was the winning pitcher in the second game.
Sam Houston State will complete its spring break stay in Florida Sunday with an 11:30 AM (Eastern time) game with Georgia Southern and a 2 p.m. (Eastern time) contest with George Mason.
