Women perform well at UT outdoor meet

AUSTIN -- Led by first place finishes by Dess Meek in the high jump, Tiffany Singleton in the 400 meter dash, and Allison Ferries in the 3000 meter steeplechase, the Sam Houston State women's team got the 2008 outdoor season off to a good start with top performances at the University of Texas Longhorn Invitational Saturday.
Meek won the high jump with an NCAA regional qualifying mark of 5' 8.75" Singleton took first place in the 400 meters with a clocking of 56.38 seconds. Ferries won the steeplechase with a time of 11.20.75. Ferries also placed sixth in the 3000 meter run (10:45.09).
Whitney Rister was the runner-up in the steeplechase (11:39.10). Jessica Fisher was fourth in the 100 meter dash (11.94) Monika May took fifth in the 400 meters (58.27) and Ashley Casalini was sixth in the same event (58.74).
In the field events, Kristi Hermes was fifth (11' 5.75") and Karen Klintoe eighth (10' 11.75") in the pole vault. Kendall Bass placed sixth (44' 6.25") in the shot put.
