Six Bearkat women post winning marks at Houston

HOUSTON -- Chris Cralle led the men and Tywaneisha Spiller paced the women as the Sam Houston State track and field team competed in the Texas Southern / Rice Quadrangular Meet Saturday.
Cralle won the hammer with a throw of 201 feet, five inches, his first time to throw the hammer more than 200 feet. The mark is a Sam Houston school record and an NCAA regional qualifying mark. The throw surpasses any hammer throw at the Southland Conference outdoor meet since the event was added to the championships. The 201-5 throw stands third in the NCAA Midwest Regional rankings and 27th nationally in NCAA Division I track and field.
Cralle also was the top intercollegiate competitor in the discus with a throw of 170 feet, three inches.
Spiller, a walk-on freshman, won the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 14.08 seconds. Spilled defeated the Southland Conference indoor champion, Jordan Heggie of Sam Houston, head-to-head Spiller also led off the Bearkats' winning 4x100 relay team.
Five other women won individual events. Christina Webb was the winner in both the shot put (45' 6.5") and the discus (141' 7"). Tiffany Singleton won the 400 meters (54.97), Dakota Stewart the 400 meter hurdles (1:02.86), Kendall Bass the hammer (170' 4"), and Karen Klintoe the pole vault (11' 9.75").
Jessica Fisher was the top collegiate runner in the 200 meters (23.98). Dess Meek was the top college competitor in the long jump (19' 6.75").
Lane Dennis won the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 51.36 and Travis Matthews won the pole vault with a mark of 16' 0.75". Scottie Jones was the top college competitor in the 110 hurldes (14.25).
"Our objective for this meet was to focus on specific events and produce better marks," Head Coach Curtis Collier said. "When you consider that our men produced 16 season bests and our women produced 20 season bests, you have to conclude that we had a good meet. Chris Cralle and Lane Dennis both improved their region qualifying marks. Freshman, Christina Webb, also had a great meet, winning both shot and discus."
