CONWAY, AR ? Led by Peta Taylor, who combined with Irina Sotnikova for a victory at number one doubles then won her number three singles match, Sam Houston State defeated Central Arkansas in a Southland Conference women's tennis dual match Saturday afternoon 6-1.

Taylor defeated Heidi Miller 6-0 6-3 in singles. She and Sotnikova took the number one doubles pro set 8-3.

Eleonora Kuruc defeated Rebecca Mille 6-2 6-1 at number two, Patricia Manzur blanked Lindsey Short 6-0 6-0 at number five, and Roxana Martinez knocked off Rebecca McCullough 6-0 6-1 at number six for Sam Houston's other singles victories. Stasa Vujosevic and Martinez combined for a victory at number two doubles to earn Sam Houston the doubles point.

Sunday, Sam Houston State completed its road trip with a 6-1 dual match loss at Northwestern State.

Irina Sotnikova provided the Bearkats' lone point with a victory at number one singles.

Sotnikova and Peta Taylor won at #1 doubles in both matches to up their dual match season doubles record to 17-2 and remain unbeaten, 8-0, in Southland Conference play.  Including fall tournament action, Sotnikova and Taylor now hold a 25-7 season doubles record, a new Sam Houston State school mark for doubles victories, breaking the old mark of 23 set by Robyn Bassett and Vladka Uhlirova in 1999.

Sam Houston now stands 5-4 in Southland Conference play and 6-13 for the year in dual matches.
