Two Sam Houston State University softball signees are among a group of five Texans named as first team selections on the 2008 Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches' Association (NFCA) high school All-America squad.
Tomi Garrison, pitcher from Garland, and Calli Wood, catcher from Bryan, will begin their freshman year at Sam Houston State in August.
The other three Texans on the team all signed with Big 12 Conference schools. They are third baseman Taylor Hogland of Flower Mound, shortstop Emily Albus of Brenham and Kelsea Orsek of Pearland.
"This is a terrific honor for these two young ladies and exciting news for Bearkat softball fans," Sam Houston State head softball coach Bob Brock said. "Both are outstanding individuals and will add a lot to our program."
Garrison compiled a 24-1 record and a 0.20 earned run average and was a starter on consecutive state championship teams. Wood hit .496 and had 42 runs batted in as a senior, leading Bryan to the state playoffs again.
Texas's five players on the high school All-America first team were the most by any state.
