The Dallas Cowboys will sign former Sam Houston State All-America defensive back Keith Davis Wednesday. Davis replaces Evan Oglesby who was released Tuesday, opening the spot on the 53-man roster.
Davis will be making his third stint with the club in a five-year span. The former Dallas safety and special teams standout signed a two-year free agent deal with Miami in March but was cut before the Dolphins' final preseason game.
Davis should help the Cowboys on special teams which have struggled on the coverage units in the preseason.
Another former Bearkat, quarterback Josh McCown was traded to the Carolina Panthers last Friday, giving Carolina an experienced backup for starting quarterback Jake Delhomme.
McCown signed a two-year deal with the Dolphins in the offseason after starting 31 games in six years at Arizona, Detroit and Oakland. He is now on his fifth stop in seven NFL seasons, having played with the Arizona Cardinals, Detroit Lions, Oakland Raiders and Miami.
McCown became Sam Houston State's highest NFL draft pick ever when he was tabbed by the Cardinals in the third round after leading the Bearkats to the Southland Conference championship and NCAA playoffs in 2001.
At Arizona, he passed for 2,511 yards and 11 touchdowns. He has thrown for 35 touchdowns in his NFL career.
