Hailey Wiginton, Morgan Mikulin tabbed preseason All-Southland

Sam Houston State has been tabbed to finish fifth in the 2009 Southland Conference softball race according to a poll of the league's head coaches.
Stephen F. Austin is the choice of the coaches to win the 2009 title. The Lumberjacks received first place votes from seven of the SLC's 12 head coaches.
Two Bearkats, shortstop Hailey Wiginton and pitcher Morgan Mikulin, have been named to the 2009 preseason All-Southland Conference squad.
Wiginton earned first team All-Southland honors in 2008 as a true freshman. She led the Bearkats with .388 batting average including 10 doubles, one triple, three home runs and 19 RBIs.
Mikulin is a two-time All-Southland Conference honoree who has totaled 213 strike outs in 81 games in her two years as a Bearkat pitcher.
Sam Houston State finished seventh in the 2008 Southland race and lost to Nicholls in the first round of the Southland tournament. The Bearkats earned an NCAA playoff berth in 2007 by winning the Southland tournament.
The Bearkats returned 14 of 16 letter winners including eight field starter and both starting pitchers from last year's 30-31 squad.
Other top players for the 2009 squad include 2007 Southland tournament MVP pitcher Brandi Crnkovic and 2007 first team All-Southland catcher Casie Everitt.
