
Southeastern Louisiana edges soccer 3-2 in OT

Maiya Cooper right-footed in a shot from 14 yards out one minute into overtime play to give Southeastern Louisiana a 3-2 Southland Conference women's soccer victory over Sam Houston State Saturday morning.
The game, originally scheduled for Friday night, was postponed due to a flooded playing surface at Pritchett Field and was held Saturday morning on an intramural field.
Cooper scored on a pass from Candice Wallace after the Lions intercepted a pass at midfield.
Sam Houston held a 1-0 lead at halftime. Leah Snelson from just outside the goalkeeper's box in the 23rd minute on a cross from the right side by Deanna Long.
The Lions tied the match 1-1 in the 55th minute as Natalie Santana lifted a pass over a Bearkat defender which slipped out of goalkeeper Jenny Pence's hands and dropped to Taylor Pounds' feet. Pounds right-footed the ball into the back of the net to tie the match.
Kirby Zak scored on a penalty kick in the 78th minute to give Sam Houston a 2-1 lead. Three minutes later, Kerry McWhirter forced overtime with a goal off a pass by Lauren Stillians.
Sam Houston State will play host to Nicholls at 1 p.m. Sunday. The game also will be played at Sam Houston Intramural Field Number 3 due to poor field conditions at Pritchett Field.
