RESULTS from Southland Indoor Track and Field Championships
Sophomore Dess Meek won the high jump and placed second in the long jump to lead the Sam Houston State women's squad to a third place team finish in the 30th annual Southland Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Bill Yeoman Sports Center at University of Houston Friday and Saturday.
The Sam Houston State women also picked up a gold medal in the sprint relay with Monika May, Tiana Lee, Brittany Henson and Desiree Taylor combining for winning time of 3:48.09.
Stephen F. Austin won the women's team championship with 158 points. Texas State-San Marcos was the team runner-up with a 114 score. Sam Houston totaled 84 points for third place and Texas-Arlington was fourth at 76.
Meek cleared 5' 8.75” on her first attempt Friday to earn the victory in the high jump. She leaped 19' 3.5” in the long jump.
Lee (8.54), Jordan Heggie (8.69) and Ty Spilled (8.70) places 2nd, 4th and 5th respectively in the 60 meter hurdles.
Kristi Hermes placed third in the pole vault with a mark of 11' 11.75”
Other fourth place individual finishes for the Bearkat women included Devyn Mitchell (2:15.08) in the 800 meter run, Kim Olison (49' 2.25”) in the weight throw, Christian Webb (44' 8”) in the shot put and McCuin (38' 8.75”) in the triple jump.
