Sam Houston State men's basketball game with Texas State-San Marcus this Saturday (March 7) will be televised by the Southland Conference Television Network, the league office announced Monday.
The telecast begins at 2 p.m. with tipoff scheduled for 2:05 p.m. The Houston area SLC TV affiliate is Channel 55 "The Tube."
The contest originally was selected as a 7 p.m. start but has been moved to 2 p.m. for television. Two other time changes made necessary by the switch for TV including moving SHSU's baseball game with UTA (originally a 2 p.m. start) to 5 p.m. and the Bearkat softball doubleheader with Northwestern State to 6 p.m. (from its original 1 p.m. first pitch).
Having already secured a berth in the 2009 State Farm Southland Conference Basketball Tournament next week in Katy, Texas, West Division leader Sam Houston State is in contention for the tournament's top seed. The Bearkats, which play host to Northwestern State on Wednesday, are 10-4, while East Division leader Stephen F. Austin is 11-3 heading into its home game Wednesday against Central Arkansas. The Lumberjacks close the regular season Saturday at UTSA.
Texas State-San Marcos is one of four teams trying to lock down one of the two remaining spots in the tournament. The Bobcats, which are looking for their first berth in the tournament since the 2003-04 season, are 6-8 in league play entering a midweek home game vs. UTSA.
The wild card game is part of the 16-game basketball broadcast package on the Southland TV Network. The network also will televise five games of next week's conference tournament, including the women's championship game on Saturday, March 14. Both men's and women's semifinal games will be televised by the network on Friday, March 13 and the men's championship game will be televised by ESPN2 on Sunday, March 15.
