Women open outdoor season at SFA meet

Tiana Lee won the 400 meter hurdles and Jessica Fisher returned to action to finish second in the 400 meter dash and perform well in the 4x400 relay to highlight action for the Sam Houston State women's track and field team in its first outdoor action of 2009 at the Dogwood Invitational hosted Friday and Saturday by Stephen F. Austin.
Lee won with a time of 14.18, just tenths of a second short of the NCAA Regional qualifying standard. Fisher posted a time of 55.99 in the 400.
Other runner-up performances included Dakota Stewart (2:21.92) in the 800 meters, Sara Collazos (19:37.23) in the 5,000 meters, Lee (14.18) in the 100 meter hurdles, Kristi Hermes (11' 7.75”) in the pole vault and Christina Webb (145' 8”) in the discus.
The Kat women won the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:46.97.
“It was a good first meet for the outdoor season,” head coach Curtis Collier said. Sam Houston is the defending Southland Conference outdoor women's champion. “All people who will contribute significantly to the team as we build to the Southland Championships in May.”
