HUNTSVILLE ? Second baseman Braeden Riley, shortstop Jon Reed and left fielder Tyler Lundy each hit a triple as Sam Houston State rolled up 16 hits in a 11-6 non-conference baseball victory over Texas Southern Wednesday night at Don Sanders Stadium.
The three triples tied a school record for Sam Houston (22-13). The Bearkats have won six of their last eight games.
Riley and Reed's triples both came in the five-run first inning for the Bearkats. Riley and Reed also had doubles in the fourth inning.
Tiger first baseman Earnest Rhome hit a two-run homer for Texas Southern (15-20) in the seventh inning.
Riley, Lundy, third baseman Ryan Mooney and first baseman Nick Zaleski each had three hits. Mooney totaled four RBIs and Reed added three. The Bearkats totaled six stolen bases in the contest.
Third baseman David Arrendondo went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead a Texas Southern squad that totaled 10 hits.
Justin Jackson (2-0) earned the victory on the mound in his second start of the season. Jackson struck out three Tigers while walking only one and giving up six hits. Cody Springer, Daniel Nottebart and Ryan Tepera threw in relief. Dakota Laufenberg (2-1) was the loser for Texas Southern.
Sam Houston State returns to Southland Conference action Friday as the Bearkats travel to Thibodaux, LA, to begin a three-game series with Nicholls State.
