Softball blanked twice at Central Arkansas

CONWAY, AR -- Central Arkansas shut out Sam Houston State twice by scores of 2-0 and 1-0 in a rain-interupted Southland Conference softball doubleheader Saturday at Bear Diamond.

Katee McGregor's pinch hit single in the bottom of the fifth inning scored both runs in the opening game.
Hollie Hill limited the Bearkats to three hits.

Casie Everitt, Sarah Parich and Kendra Spivey accounted for the Bearkats' three hits. Morgan Mikulin was the losing pitcher for Sam Houston.

The game started at 12 noon Saturday, but was stopped in the fifth inning due to heavy rains. The two teams were not able to resume the contest until 7 p.m. Saturday night.

McGregor also produced the winning run in the second game with a walk-off run-scoring single in the bottom of the fourth extra inning of play.

Brandi Crnkovic threw six perfect innings in the nightcap and allowed the Sugar Bears only four hits while striking out six. The contest finished at 10:35 p.m.

Sam Houston only produced five hits in 11 innings in the contest as Parich had a double and Hailey Wiginton, Amy Brown, Alex Survant and Calli Wood each had singles.

The 1-0 shut out dropped Sam Houston's season record to 22-21 and the Kats' league mark to 11-12.
