Kylie Fitzgerald
5-7 distance runner from Cypress Woods High School
Kylie posted personal best marks of 4:58.98 in the 1500m run, 7:31.50 in the 2000m steeplechase, and 10:56.50 in the 3000m run. She qualified for regionals in both the 1600m and 3200m runs. In fall 2007, Kylie posted a personal best mark in the 3200m run of 11:32 at the UIL Region III-5A cross country championships, finishing 14th. She has finished in the top 10 in the district in cross country each of her four years of high school, recording her best finish, third, in 2007. Kylie is the daughter of Alan and Vera Fitzgerald. High school is Greg Zarate.
Haley Peddy
5-4 distance runner from Brenham High School
As a junior Haley broke Brenham High School's records in both the 1600m and 3200m runs with a mark of 11:22.89 in the district meet at Brenham and, the following week, at the UIL regional where she finished first in the 3200m Run, posting a mark of 11:27.39, and 3rd in the 1600m run with a time of 5:20.26. At the 2008 state championships, Haley finished in 6th place with a time of 11:33.93. While a student-athlete at Brenham High School Haley was coached by both Jennifer Lane and Trenton Hall. She is the daughter of Ronnie and Teresa Peddy.
Stephen Brown ? Huntsville High School
An all around jumper, Stephen Brown looks to have an impact in the Southland Conference in both horizontal jumps as well as the high jump. As a junior, Stephen qualified for the UIL State Track & Field Championships in the triple jump after finishing 2nd at his Regional Championships with a mark of 46' 10”. He went on to place 4th in the Class 4A division in the event. Stephen is the son of Eva and Craig Oliphant.
Alyssa Dooley ? Flower Mound Marcus High School
A middle distance runner, Alyssa posted best high school marks of 2:19.60 in the 800m run, 5:16.10 in the 1600m run, 11:37.75 at the 2006 UIL state cross country championships, and 19:32 for 5000m at the 2008 Nike South championships. In 2008, Alyssa was a regional qualifier in both the 800m and 1600m, finishing first and second, respectively. She placed in the top 10 in both races at regionals. Alyssa was also a qualifier for the 2008 Congress Avenue Mile. Alyssa was a key contributor to the Marcus' cross country program, finishing in the top 10 at her district championships all 4 years. She recorded her best finish in 2006 (2nd). At regionals, she finished in the top 15 three different times. She qualified for state in 2006, where finished21st with a mark of 11:37.75. Alyssa was coached by Steve Telaneus and she is the daughter of Chris and Angie Dooley.
Courtney Haggard ? Clear Lake High School
A distance runner from Clear Lake High School, Courtney comes to Sam Houston State University after helping her high school team finish in the top 6 at the 2009 UIL State Cross Country Championships. Courtney was the 38th team member to cross the finish line, recording a time of 12:03.08. Courtney has a personal best of 5:28.72 in the 1600m from the 2008 District 24-5A Championships, where she finished 4th. Courtney is the daughter of Richard and Monica Haggard.
Sabrina Starr ? La Porte High School
A sprinter/hurdler from La Porte High School, Sabrina produced best marks of 7.87 in the 60m dash, 8.97 in the 60m hurdles, 12.2 in the 100m dash, 14.4 in the 100m hurdles, and 45.3 in the 300m hurdles. She was district champion in the 100m hurdles and 300m hurdles in 2008 and has qualified for the UIL regional track & field championships in the 100m dash, 100m hurdles, and 300m hurdles as both a sophomore and a junior. Sabrina is the daughter of Billy and Jodi Starr.
Shelbie Zotyka ? Brazos High School
As a junior at Brazos High School, Shelbie finished 4th at the UIL State Championships in the Pole Vault with a clearance of 10' 9”. She was the winner at the UIL Regional Championships in 2007, setting a personal best of 11' 0”. She is also a two-time district champion in the event. In the Fall of her senior year, Shelbie was named 2nd Team All-District in Volleyball as Brazos High School went on to finish runner-up at the UIL State Tournament. Shelbie is the daughter of Roxanne and Ladgie Zotyka.
Kaylee Brazeel ? Argyle High School
Kaylee Brazeel comes to SHSU as a pole vaulter with a background in a multitude of events. During her career at Argyle High School, Kaylee was a regional qualifier in the 100m Dash, 100m Hurdles, Long Jump, 4x100m Relay, 4x200m Relay and the Pole Vault. In 2007, Kaylee qualified for the UIL Regional Championships in 5 events and went on to qualify for the UIL State Championships in her specialty, the pole vault, where she finished 4th. Kaylee boasts a personal best of 11-feet in the vault and 15.6 in the 100m Hurdles, an event in which she has twice qualified for the regional meet.
