Catcher Mark Wyatt hit a three-run homer in the first game and shortstop Ryan Mooney posted a grand slam home run in the first inning of the nightcap.
Center fielder Justin Keithley went 5-for-5 with five RBIs in the first game. Sam Houston pounded the four Husky pitchers for 27 hits. Keithley, Jordan Bunch, Ryan Mooney and Tyler Lundy each had a double.
Justin Jackson (3-0) was credited with the victory after relieving starter Dallas Gallant in the third inning. Jackson did not allow a hit or a walk and struck out one, facing 10 batters in three and a third innings.
Sam Houston scored nine runs in the second inning and eight in the fourth to go up 17-2. Ahead 19-2 and three outs away from a run rule, the Bearkats surrendered 10 runs in the top of the seventh. Sam Houston added a run in the seventh and two more in the eighth to earn the run-rule victory.
The scoring continued in the nightcap as Mooney started the action with his grand slam in first. Sam Houston produced a six-run second inning and a seven run sixth. Sam Houston totaled 20 hits in the second game.
Houston Baptist rallied for a five run third and cut the Bearkat lead to 10-6 in the fifth.
Sam Houston totaled 20 hits in the game with Tyler Knight, Riley and Brandon Yates each totaling three hits.
During the doubleheader, the Bearkats totaled 42 hits.
Ryan Tepera received credit for the victory in the nightcap and Cody Springer earned the save.
Sam Houston State begins a three-game Southland Conference series with Southeastern Louisiana Friday night at 6:30 at Don Sanders Stadium as the home stand continues.
