HUNTSVILLE ? Shortstop Justin Boudreaux' s solo home run in the top of the 10^th inning provided the winning run as Southeastern Louisiana defeated Sam Houston State 5-2 in a Southland Conference baseball game Saturday afternoon at Don Sanders Stadium.

The victory gives the Lions a 2-0 edge in the SLC weekend series with the third and final contest scheduled Sunday at 1 p.m.

Southeastern Louisiana (25-17, SLC 14-9) moved into a tie for second place in the Southland standings with Sam Houston (28-15, SLC 14-9) with the win.

The 10^th inning loss was the first in seven extra inning games for Sam Houston this season.

The Lions jumped out early as Cass Hargis walked then scored on a double by Ty Summerlin and Josh Cryer singled to bring in Summerlin for two runs in the top of the first inning.

Braeden Riley extended his hitting streak to 13 games with a triple to right in the bottom of the first. Nick Zaleski powered his eighth home run of the season off the scoreboard in left field to tie the game 2-2.

Southeastern Louisiana pitcher Brandon Efferson shut out the Bearkats for the next seven innings.

Summerlin's solo home run in the third and an RBI single by Justin Boudreaux and a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning put Southeastern Louisiana ahead 5-2.

Tyler Lundy's two run single and a run-scoring double by Peter Goudeau sparked a three-run ninth inning to force extra innings.

Chris Franklin (2-2) was the game winner, throwing two innings in relief. Brandon Efferson held the Bearkats to nine hits in eight innings. Dallas Gallant (2-4) was the loser for Sam Houston in relief.
