HUNTSVILLE ? Shortstop Ryan Goins' two-out single in the top of the seventh inning scored the winning run as Dallas Baptist handed Sam Houston a 6-2 defeat in a non-conference baseball game Tuesday night at Don Sanders Stadium.
First baseman Trevor Head went 3-for-4 with a double and a solo home run for the Patriots as they upped their season record to 31-11.
Bearkat second baseman Braeden Riley had three hits to extend his hitting streak to 15 games and produce his 31st multiple hit game of the season. The Bearkats totaled 11 hits but left 10 men on base as Sam Houston fell to 28-17 for the year.
Catcher Brandon Brantz led off the third inning with a double, moved to third on an error then scored on a sacrifice fly to left by right fielder Ryan Enos to give the Patriots a 1-0 lead.
First baseman Trevor Head blasted a solo home run to left field in the fourth inning for a 2-0 Dallas Baptist lead.
Right fielder Tyler Knight put the Bearkats on the board in the fifth inning with a two-run double to right center fielder. Knight scored Justin Keithley and Riley who both singled.
Back-to-back singles in the top of the seventh inning by Goins and designated hitter Jason Krizan put the Patriots in front again 4-2. Krizan added another RBI single in the top of the ninth.
Jared Stafford (2-1) earned the victory as the Patriots' starting pitcher. Will Skelton (2-2) was the losing pitcher in relief for Sam Houston.
