The Sam Houston State softball team plays host to Southland Conference leader Texas State-San Marcos Saturday and Sunday in the final regular season weekend series at Bearkat Softball Complex for the 2009 season.
The Bearkats enter the contest attempting to nail down their third consecutive Southland Conference post-season tournament appearance.
The Bobcats (21-6, SLC 34-15) already have clinched the No. 1 seed the SLC tournament which will be held Thursday through Saturday at Lake Charles, LA. Sam Houston State (26-22, SLC 15-12) is tied with Texas-Arlington for fifth place.
Only Nicholls State (30-22, SLC 14-13), who plays McNeese State this weekend, could upset the Bearkats' plans for a tournament trip. The Colonels must win two more games than the Kats this weekend to muscle their way into post-season play.
The Texas State-San Marcos series will make the final home appearances for five Bearkat seniors who have led Sam Houston to 110 victories the past four years.
The seniors include outfielders Krystal Gay and Kendra Spivey, catcher Casie Everitt, third baseman Sarah Parich and pitcher Brandi Crnkovic.
Gay has played in 82 games as a Bearkat, totaling 24 hits with three doubles and two home runs in her career.
Crnkovic completes her career the Bearkats' all-time leader in strike outs with 519. She ranks second in career saves, fourth in innings pitched and fifth in pitching victories.
Everitt ranks as one of the top catchers in SHSU softball history. She stands fourth in career put outs at Sam Houston and holds a .984 fielding average with only 15 errors in nearly 1,000 chances.
Parich has played 200 games at third base for the Bearkats the last four years and stands third in career assists at Sam Houston. Her career totals include 143 hits, 62 RBIs, 23 doubles, six home runs and 21 stolen bases.
