Trevon Charles signs with SHSU men's basketball

Trevon Charles, a 6-4, 215 pound sophomore from Western Texas Junior College in Snyder, has signed a letter of intent to attend Sam Houston State and play men's basketball for Sam Houston State head coach Bob Marlin.
Charles ranked number six in the Western Junior College Athletic Conference in free throw accuracy (.789).
“Trevon is a strong, versatile player,” Marlin said. “He's a tough player on defense, but he's also very good offensively as well.
“He'll bring some added depth to the small forward position. We have Josten Crow at that position and we lost DeLuis Ramirez (to graduation), so having that swing type of player will be helpful.”
A native of Queens, NY, where he was an all-region player for Rice High School, Charles earned first team All-WJCAC honors after leading his team to a 20-10 record and the school's first appearance in the NJCAA Region V tournament in 29 years.
Charles averaged 13.7 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.2 steals per game as a sophomore, playing for head coach Jason Sautter.
His freshman season, he played for Monroe Community College in the Bronx, NY, helping lead the team to a 24-8 record and the NJCAA Region III tournament. He averaged 8.8 points and 4.3 rebounds.
