HUNTSVILLE ? Catcher Mark Wyatt hit a double and a three-run homer to lead Sam Houston State to a 10-2 victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Southland Conference baseball game Thursday night at Don Sanders Stadium.
Second baseman Braeden Riley went 2-for-4 at the plate to up his season hit total to 98, the top figure in NCAA Division I baseball this year. Riley singled in the first and fifth innings.
Sam Houston (31-21, SLC 17-13) totaled 14 hits, scoring in each of the first six innings to open the three-game weekend series with a win. Centerfielder Adam DeLaGarza went 4-for-4 with 3 RBIs. Shortstop Jon Reed added a triple and Jordan Bunch and Adam DeLaGarza each had doubles for the Bearkats.
Sean Weatherford (7-5) allowed the Islanders four hits in five innings to earn the victory on the mound. The true freshman from Bryan struck out six batters. Guillaume Duguay, Ryan Tepera and Matt Shelton all pitched in relief.
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi dropped to 17-37 for the season and 8-23 in Southland Conference action. Phillip Garcia (0-3) was the losing pitcher for the Islanders.
The Bearkats and Islanders will meet Friday at 2 p.m. with the final game Saturday at 1 p.m. The series wraps up the regular season for both teams. Sam Houston State will move on the the Southland Conference post-season tournament in Corpus Christi beginning Wednesday.
