Bearkat Classic: The 2000 victory over Louisiana-Lafayette

On September 26, 2009 the Sam Houston State football team will head to Tulsa to take on the Golden Hurricane, a Football Bowl Subdivision team. It will be the 25th time the Bearkats have faced an opponent from the top division in college football.
On Sept. 2, 2000, the Kats notched their first victory over an FBS opponent (formerly Division I-A) when they travelled to Lafayette, La. to take on Louisiana-Lafayette. On the strength of a solid defensive performance and a key play on Special teams, the Kats were able to pull off a 21-14 victory.
The Ragin' Cajuns were held to 241 yards of total offense, including just 91 through the air. The big play for the Kats was a blocked punt by Chris Foster that was returned 12 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter.
With the score tied at 14, Jaron Dabney scored from three yards out to give the Bearkats their first win over and FBS opponent in 13 tries.
