Volleyball losses three in Nevada

RENO, NV --  The Sam Houston volleyball team completed action in the Nevada Wolfpack Classic Saturday with a pair of losses.

Nevada rallied from two sets to none down to defeat Sam Houston State 22-25 21-25 25-9 25-18 15-6 Saturday  afternoon. Then UC-Davis shut out the Bearkats in three sets 25-15 25-20 25-8.

The losses drop Sam Houston to 5-7 for the season.

Carli Kolbe led the Bearkats in kills in all three matches. Saturday she had 17 kills in the five-set loss to Nevada and 10 against UC-Davis.

Nevada totaled 82 points with 64 kills, six aces and 12 blocks while Sam Houston responded with 44 kills and 55 points.

UC-Davis rolled up 43 kills to 27 for the Kats. Allison Wilson led the victors with 13 kills.

Friday night, Portland State totaled 55 points while allowing Sam Houston only 26 as Vikings took an hour and 18 minutes to defeat the Bearkats in three sets 25-12 25-14 25-18 on the first day of the event.

Whitney Phillips led Portland State with 18 kills. The Vikings totaled 40 kills in 72 attempts with only 13 errors. They blocked 11 Bearkat scoring attempts.

Carli Kolbe led Sam Houston with six kills. Anna Ferguson added four. The Bearkats committed 24 errors and had only 19 kills in their 86 attempts.

Sam Houston led only once in one of the three sets. The Bearkats held a 4-3 lead in the second set and were tied 8-8 before Portland State won 17 of the next 23 points.

The Vikings jumped out to 10-3 leads in both the first and third sets.

Kolbe totaled 17 kills in the Nevada match to lead Sam Houston again. Ferguson added 12. Kylie Harrington led Nevada with 17 kills.
