Central Michigan did not drop a set as the Chippewas swept undefeated through the Comfort Suites Bearkat Classic to take home the trophy after a 25-16 26-24 25-21 victory over Sam Houston State in the championship match Saturday night.
Earlier in the day, North Texas handed Sam Houston its first home loss of the 2009 season as the Eagles knocked off the Bearkats in five sets Saturday afternoon. Sam Houston now stands 6-9 for the year.
Carli Kolbe led Sam Houston with 12 kills in the loss to the Chippewas. Anna Ferguson added eight. Kaitlyn Hurt totaled nine kills to lead Central Michigan.
Central Michigan placed three players on the All-Tournament team. Sam Houston had two and Lamar and NorthTexas one apiece.

Led by Amy Huddleston with 25 kills, North Texas won over the Bearkats 19-25 27-25 25-21 27-29 15-7 to up its record for the year to 3-9. Sam Houston fell to 6-8. The Bearkats came into the contest 6-0 at Johnson Coliseum this fall.
Anna Ferguson totaled 26 winners for Sam Houston with 24 kills and four blocking assists. Carli Kolbe had 20 kills.
Sam Houston totaled 73 kills to 64 for North Texas but errors took their toll as the Bearkats committed 48 including 28 hitting, 13 misses serves, three returns errors and four in-the-net calls. The Bearkats breezed through the first set, hitting .279 with 16 kills and only four errors in 43 attempts. But in the second set, trailing 15-9, North Texas rallied for a 27-25 victory and the match became a horserace.
During the final four sets, the score was tied 34 times with 16 lead changes. North Texas committed 29 errors, hitting .223 for the match. The Eagles front line blocked 16 Bearkat shots.
LAMAR 3, NORTH TEXAS 0
Lamar picked up its first victory of the weekend in its final match in the Comfort Suites Bearkat Classic, defeating North Texas 27-25 25-19 25-23.
Lauren Holdorff and Wendy Krell each had eight kills to lead the Cardinals. Lamar totaled 50 winners as a team with 38 kills nine service aces and three blocks.
Amy Huddleston led North Texas with 17 kills and four blocks.
Lamar edged the Eagles 27-25 in the first set in a frame that saw six lead changes and 13 ties. For the match, the score was tied 29 times with 14 lead changes.
Lamar upped its season record to 5-7 while North Texas dropped to 3-10.
CENTRAL MICHIGAN 3, LAMAR 0
Three Chipewwa players totaled double digit kills as Central Michigan remained unbeaten in the Comfort Suites Bearkat Classic Saturday, defeating Lamar 25-23 25-27 29-27.
Kaitlyn Schultz and Lauren Krupsky each had 13 kills and Kaitlyn Hurt added 11 for Central Michigan (6-3). Lauren Holdorff led Lamar (4-7) with 11 kills.
Overall throughout the three sets, the score was tied 32 times. Central Michigan totaled 66 points on winners (54 kills, 6 aces and 6 blocks) while Lamar was credited with 48 winners (41 kills, 4 aces and 3 blocks).
