Bearkat goalkeeper made 17 saves as the Texas A&M offense dominated with 41 shots but Sam Houston soaked up most of the pressure during the game.
"We were very pleased with our effort today," SHSU head coach Tom Brown said. "They are No. 13 in the country and have such great athletes that they eventually broke us down. But, when you realize that A&M beat the No. 2 team in the nation 3-1 Friday night and they only beat us 4-0, that's pretty remarkable."
Whitney Hooper scored A&M's first goal at the 11:57 mark but could not score again until the second period. Nora Skelton tallied at 48:48, Katie Hamilton added the third goal at 68:40 and Cydne Currie capped the scoring at 78:24.
Amanda Biega and Kirby Zak took shots for the Bearkats. Texas A&M now stands 5-3 while the Bearkats dropped to 2-5-1.
"Our goal in every preseason match has been to learn something and we showed a lot of progress defensively," Brown said. "A&M puts tremendous pressure on you with their speed and athleticism. For most of the match, we held up. Jenny had an outstanding game in goal. Some of her saves were remarkable."
Sam Houston State plays host to Louisiana Tech Friday night at Pritchett Field in their next action.
