Led by Becky Swann who totaled 10 kills, Sam Houston State took an hour and five minutes to dispatch Texas Southern in three sets 25-11 25-14 25-17 Thursday night at Johnson Coliseum. 

The Bearkats totaled 56 winners during the match with 42 kills, 10 service aces and four blocks while Texas Southern responded with only 16 winners.

 Emma Obi led the Tigers with six kills. 

  Sam Houston never trailed in the first two sets. The Tigers and the Bearkats exchanged leads six times in the final frame before Sam Houston took over to finish out with a victory. 

  Kim Black added eight kills and Carli Kolbi, Anna Ferguson, Camille Alfaro and Shamira Washington each had four for Sam Houston State. The victory upped Sam Houston's season record to 8-9 while Texas Southern dropped to 6-10.

   Sam Houston State resumes Southland Conference play Saturday afternoon traveling to Beaumont to take on the Lamar Cardinals.

   The Bearkats' next home match is Tuesday as Sam Houston plays host to Houston Baptist.
