Cindy Hedden and Arielle Rodriguez each scored to lead Houston Baptist to a 2-0 non-conference women's soccer victory over Sam Houston State Sunday afternoon.
The loss drops Sam Houston to 1-3 for the season. Houston Baptist upped its record to 1-2.
Hedden scored in the 34th minute on a croos from Isla Cameron. Rodriguez beat two Bearkat defenders on a breakaway to tally in the 74th minute.
Sam Houston goalkeeper Jenny Pence was credited with six saves. The Huskies totaled 11 shots while Sam Houston took nine. HBU had 12 cornerkicks while Sam Houston totaled three.
Shelby Grissett led Sam Houston with three shots. Paige Rodriguez added two more.
Next action for Sam Houston State will be the University of Texas-El Paso tournament. The Bearkats will play UTEP on Friday and Arkansas State on Sunday. The soccer team will play its first home match on Wednesday, Sept. 16, at 7 p.m. at Pritchett Field.
