Clavell earns second "player of week" honor

Clavell scored 21 points and pulled down 12 rebounds to lead Sam Houston to 66-57 victory against Stephen F. Austin, the defending Southland conference regular-season and tournament champion, in both team's league opener Saturday.
The performance marked the second time this season Clavell has posted both double figure points and rebounds in one game. The junior from Mayguez, Puerto Rico (Florida Air Academy), posted his 10th double-figure scoring performance of the year. He shot 9-of-16 from the floor in 37 minutes against the Lumberjacks.
Clavell leads Sam Hosuton with 16.0 points and 6.3 rebounds per game this season. He has scored 20 or more points in a game five times this season. He also was the conference player of the week Dec. 21 after scoring 34 points in a win over Auburn.
Next action for the Sam Houston State Bearkats will be a Southland Conference game with Southeastern Louisiana Saturday at 3 pm at the University Center in Hammond, LA.
Sam Houston State returns to Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum to face Texas State on Wednesday, Jan. 20, at 7 p.m.
