
Bearkat men rank high in league, NCAA stats

The Sam Houston men's basketball team, one of only two teams without a loss in Southland Conference play two weeks into the league schedule, continue to rank high in both Southland and NCAA Division I statstics.
The Bearkats stand as the league's top team in scoring offense (79.9), three point field goals per game (8.9), assists per game (20.6), assist/turnover ratio (1.66) and turnover margin (4.2).
Sam Houston also ranks nationally in those categories. The Kats are second in the nation in assists, trailing only Syracuse (20.3) and stand 25th in NCAA Division I in scoring offense, 11th in treys per contest, second in assist/turnover ratio and 14th in turnover margin.
Junior center Gilbreto Clavell and senior guard Corey Allmond rank No. 4 and 5 respectively in the Southland in scoring. Clavell is averaging 16.4 points and Allmond 16.1
Clavell also is the league's fifth best shooter with a .540 field goal percentage (102-of-189).
Ashton Mitchell leads the Southland in assists (4.8). Two other Bearkat players rank in the top 10 in league assists with Drae Murray averaging 3.8 and Josten Crow 3.6
Crow stands sixth in the league in steals (1.6) and leads the Southland in assist/turnover ratio (3.3). Crow ranks sixth nationally in the NCAA Division I in assist/turnover ratio.
Allmond leads the Southland and ranks seventh in NCAA Division I basketball with 3.2 three pointers per game.
Mitchell ranks seventh in the league with 1.5 steals per game.
Sam Houston State returns to action Wednesday night when the Bearkats play host to Lamar University at 7 p.m. at Johnson Coliseum.

SOUTHLAND CONFERENCE POST-SEASON TOURNAMENT
The top two teams from both divisions, plus the next four remaining teams with the best records will advance to the Merrill Center in Katy for the annual post-season SLC tournament to decide the Southland's NCAA playoff representative.The tournament begins on Wednesday March 10 with four quarter-final games. The semi-finals will be played Thursday night March 11. The finals will be televised live on ESPN2 on Saturday March 13.

SPECIAL SATURDAY NIGHT TICKET PACKAGE With the "Saturday Night Southland Conference Ticket Package" a reserved seat ticket for all three contests is only $15. The three Saturday night men's basketball opponents are Central Arkansas Feb. 6, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Feb. 13 and UT-Arlington Feb. 27. Tip off time each Saturday is 7 p.m. Only a limited number of reserved seats for the three games remain, so fans need to act now.
