The Sam Houston State men's basketball game on Saturday against Stephen F. Austin will be the first of 16 games televised by the Southland Conference Television Network this basketball season.

The Lumberjacks, who have won nine of their last 10 games, enter conference play with at least 10 wins for just the second time in the school's history. SFA was 12-2 entering league play in 2007-08. Eddie Williams is the team's leading scoffer, averaging 14.2 points per game to rank ninth in the Southland. Jereal Scott (12.0), Walt Harris (11.8) and Jordan Glynn (10.2) are also averaging in double figures. Glynn is tied for the Southland lead with six double-doubles. The Lumberjacks' 47.1 field-goal percentage paces the conference.
Sam Houston State will be trying to avoid its first three-game losing streak of the season. Corey Allmond averages 16.6 points per game to lead the team and rank fourth in the Southland. Gilberto Clavell ranks sixth in the league with his 15.6 points per game. Ashton Mitchell (10.8) is also scoring in double digits. Sam Houston is the NCAA Division I leader in assists, averaging 21.1 per game and Mitchell is averaging 4.6 assists per game to lead the conference. Allmond is averaging 3.5 made 3-pointers per game to lead the league, while Josten Crow has the best assist-to-turnover ratio (3.2) in the conference. The Bearkats lead the Southland in scoring (79.5), 3-point field goal percentage (40.1), assists per game (21.1), turnover margin (+3.8), assist/turnover ratio (1.6) and made 3-point field goals per game (9.5).
The game pits the two winningest active coaches in the Southland Conference. SHSU head coach Bob Marlin has compiled a 208-128 record with the Bearkats while Danny Kasper is 168-106 at Stephen F. Austin. Saturday's game will be the 181st meeting between the schools. The Lumberjacks hold a narrow 92-88 lead in the series that began in 1924.
