Season tickets for the 2010-11 Sam Houston men's basketball schedule are now on sale as the defending Southland Conference champions prepare to face an exciting slate of 14 home games at Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum.
With a new head coach plus six returning lettermen for the championship team that rolled up a 25-8 record last year and threw a scare into Baylor at the NCAA tournament in New Orleans, the Bearkats are ready for continued success in the coming season.
Fans wishing to purchase season tickets for all 14 home games have two options. Center court seating area season tickets (sections E and F) will be priced at $250 each. Reserved corner seating area tickets (sections HI) are $100 each for all 14 contests.
A third exciting option is the $50 "Elite Eight" package.
The plan gives fans the opportunity to purchase a ticket to seven Saturday night games against NCAA Division I opponents (matchups with Houston, Cleveland State, Nicholls, UTSA, Southeastern Louisiana, A&M-Corpus Christi and Texas State) plus the Stephen F. Austin rivalry game on Wednesday, January 26 - all eight games for the remarkable price of only $50.
All three of the ticket packages are on sale now online on gobearkats.com.
Individual game tickets for Bearkat basketball will go on sale on November 8.
Jason Hooten, assistant coach for Sam Houston State the past six years, is the Bearkats' new head men's basketball coach.
In his six seasons as an assistant coach for the Bearkats, Hooten has played a major role in directing the program to a 127-59 record, four 20-plus victory seasons, Southland Conference regular season and tournament championships and an NCAA tournament appearance in 2010.
Sam Houston stands as one of only 52 programs out of the 340 teams in Division I basketball that have posted 20 or more wins four of the last five years. Among those 52 teams, the Kats have the 28th-best winning percentage.
Southland Conference "Newcomer of the Year" Gilberto Clavell returns to lead the Bearkats. The 6-7 225 senior forward was the leading scorer (16.9 points) and leading rebounder (6.3 boards) for the conference titlists.
Josten Crow, a 6-4 senior forward, also is a returning starter. He ranked No. 1 in the Southland and No. 2 nationally in assist/turnover ratio and ended the season No. 4 in Southland assists (3.9) and in the top 10 in the league in steals (1.4).
Other returning players include 6-2 senior guard Lance Pevehouse, 5-10 junior guard Drae Murray, 6-7 junior center Antuan Bootle and 6-9 sophomore center Aaron Thompson.
Several talented newcomers look to make an impact for the Bearkats this season including 5-10 guard Marcus Williams from Cochise College in Douglas, Ariz. , 6-1 guard Nafis Richardson from McLennan Community College and 6-7 forward Marcus James from Seward County in Kansas.
