Southeastern La shuts out Sam Houston 1-0

Hammond, La. - Southeastern Louisiana shut out Sam Houston 1-0  at Lion Field to end the Bearkats two-match winning streak Friday evening.

Maiya Cooper scored the match's only goal off a cornerkick from Natalie Santana in the 60th minute.

Sam Houston had a flurry of shots in the final 12 minutes but couldn't punch in an equalizer. Carly Rheman missed a shot high in the 78th minute, Paige Rodriguez had a scoring opportunity saved in the 80th minute and Hilary Mallory put a header just wide in the 85th minute.

Bearkat goalkeeper Jenny Pence saved four of the Lions' 12 shots. The Bearkats totaled nine shots during the match Kelsi Brown taking three, Rodriguez two and Amanda Biega two.

The victory lifted Southeastern Louisiana to 9-2-3 for the season and 2-1-1 in Southland Conference action. Sam Houston dropped to 7-8-1 for the year and 3-2 in league play.

The Bearkats road trip continues Sunday with a 1 p.m. match  with Nicholls in Thibodaux, La. Sam Houston returns home to Pritchett Field for a 7 p.m. contest versus Stephen F. Austin on Friday, October 22.
