The Bearkats will compete in the Greater Ozark Invitational hosted by the University of Central Missouri. Five other teams ranked in the preseason poll will be competing in the event including No. 5 UCM, No. 6 Arkansas State, No. 11 Valparaiso, No. 17 Minnesota State-Mankato and No. 20 Louisiana Tech.
The 10-team competition runs through Sunday at Enterprise Park in Springfield.
The Bearkats were the first team listed in the also receiving points category ahead of a pair of other Texas schools, Stephen F. Austin and Prairie View A&M.
"We are the highest ranked first-year program, so it is nice to be getting this kind of attention early on," head coach Brad Hagen said. "We are off to a good start and we intend to continue to move up. Hopefully this is just a sign of things to come for this program."
The Bearkats stand at 2-0 on the season, winning their opening matches against SFA.
